Fireplace & Chimney Masonry: There is a Difference

totalchimneycare-578482_536641879695194_1491471778_nYour chimney is one of the most distinguishing features of your home. Unfortunately, your chimney also takes a beating from the elements. From extreme temperatures to rain and snow, your chimney must withstand everything that Mother Nature has to offer. On the other end, settling in your home’s foundation can also wreak havoc on your chimney, making your fireplace structurally vulnerable and causing ugly cracks that can detract from both the beauty and value of your home. For these reasons, tuckpointing and masonry repairs are something that you must expect when you own masonry chimney. And while most masons can do this, when it comes to your chimney, it has to be done right or you will be paying to have it done again.

When to Call a Professional Chimney Mason

When you first begin to notice that your chimney bricks are starting to flake or mortar is falling out, you should have your chimney evaluated as soon as possible. Oftentimes, masonry repairs can be done for a very reasonable price. However, once a chimney has become too damaged, the structure must often be partially or completely torn down and rebuilt.  If the deterioration is remedied quickly, you extend the life of your chimney and save yourself some considerable expenses.

Luckily, Total Chimney Care specializes in making masonry repairs for chimneys and fireplaces using high-quality materials that will last for years. If you have loose bricks or stones or cracks in your mortar, our trained technicians will inspect your chimney and recommend the best method to get it back in good working order. Masonry repairs are definitely something that should not be left to amateurs. Our expert technicians take pride in making sure that you are completely satisfied with our work. Total Chimney Care will expertly match your existing mortar, making sure that your chimney looks exactly as it should, without noticing the places where the mortar was replaced. All of our work will be completed in accordance with state and local building codes, so you can rest assured that your chimney will be both functionally safe and aesthetically beautiful when the work is complete.

Be sure to have your chimney damper inspected, too, to be sure it is functioning properly. Total Chimney Care will be glad to help with any repairs or installation that is required.

I am a first time homeowner and very new to keeping a home. The other day, I received a phone call from a chimney company asking if I needed my chimney cleaned. They gave me a great price of $40, so I figured, why not. My husband and I were looking forward to using our fireplace and at that price how could I go wrong. The company showed up and started to scare me that my chimney could not be cleaned, because if they did, the entire chimney would collapse. They started to scare me, that if I did not do this, my gas furnace would leak carbon monoxide into my home and it would be unsafe for my family. They were really pressuring me into a $2000 repair job. When I said I needed to discuss it with my husband, they got really aggressive and insisted I do it right away. They wanted cash and would do it for half price if I did it now. They finally left after some tense moments. I told a friend about this and she told me to call Total Chimney Care. I did and was greeted by a nice woman on the phone. She seemed to know what I was talking about and understand my fears about having someone else come out. I agreed on an appointment (reluctantly) and waited for them. They arrived, looked at my chimney, and showed me that nothing was wrong. They cleaned my fireplace and even showed me how to use it. They were great, honest, and made me feel comfortable. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone. Thanks for reading. :-)
